The first South West Doctoral Training Partnership PIPS Conference was held at the University of Bath on Tuesday 18 June 2013.
Fifty-five students, supervisors and potential employers took part in the inaugural PIPS Conference. The Conference was opened by Professor Jane Millar OBE, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research at University of Bath.
We were delighted to welcome Dr Lee Glassbrook from the BBSRC who spoke about the benefits of an internship as well as giving details of internship opportunities available through the BBSRC.
In the morning, a number of guest speakers spoke at the conference including; Dr Kim Bayliss of Purple Secure System, Dr Robert Felix of Tocris and Dr Ghislaine Dell from Baths Careers Advisory Service.
The afternoon session involved talks from PhD students that had carried out internships during their PhD, followed by a CV Clinic and PIPS objective setting session for current SWDTP students.
The Conference was closed by Professor David Bird, Dean of Science at the University of Bath.
