Overview of PIPS organisation

For 225 years the Ri has been dedicated to creating opportunities for people to engage with science. Our public and education programmes reach people of all ages and backgrounds across the UK and worldwide, with an array of opportunities for individuals to engage with and explore a variety of science topics and deepen their understanding of the world around them.

Started in 1981 following the first mathematics-focused CHRISTMAS LECTURES, Ri Masterclasses are series of free, hands-on, extra-curricular workshops for young people in mathematics, computer science or cross-curricular STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects. Masterclasses designed to highlight the beauty and breadth of these exciting subjects, allowing the students to experience them beyond the classroom and explore new topics and ideas with peers f rom other schools. In the 2022/23 academic year over 5000 school students attended over 1,300 hours of workshops, all organised in partnership with local collaborators and run at over 100 venues across the UK.
